We won at the SMU Engineering Competition at the Halifax Discovery Center!
Our best time was 4:40 to complete the course!
Performance to date has exceeded our expectations. Cerberus has proven to be a robust and versitile platform but this progress was not made unhindered. Listed below are some of our solutions to technical hurdles that we have faced.
Performance
Issue:
Potential interference between Carrier and Claw.
Solution:
Carrier designed in Solid Edge to compensate for clearance
Claw and Carrier
Issue:
Required mounting of motors and gears to custom made components.
Solution:
• VEX tabs were cut to mount as mounting plates VEX gears and motors.
• Holes were drilled in the center of the squares.
Custom Components
Issue:
Gears not meshine and misaligned
Solution:
• A shim was added to the claw to improve alignment
• A brace was added to the carrier to improve gear meshing
Gear Alignment
Issue: Limited amount of shaft collars and gears
Solution:
• Shafts were cut to length and capped in bearing blocks.
• Extra gears were purchased using VEX Budget.
